Recovery Acres Privacy Policy

Recovery Acres (RCA) takes your privacy seriously and is committed to safeguarding your privacy in all your dealings with us: in person, by phone or online. This statement provides you with information about our practices with respect to the collection, use, retention, storage, disclosure of, and your access to your Personal Information.

At all times, requirements and obligations under the Alberta Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA) and the CanadianPersonal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), will apply or over ride RCA policy. Since RCA generally conducts business in Alberta, PIPA will be the applicable legislation unless otherwise indicated or required.

Ten Privacy Principles

RCA respects the privacy of individuals who visit us or our online sites, communicate with us, respond to our marketing, send us e­mail, or use our online features or services or interact with us on social media. Our Individual Privacy Policy has been developed using the following guiding principles:

 

  1. Policy Application

This Privacy Statement applies to Personal Information we collect through contact of any kind including personal contact, phone calls, letters, texts, e-mail and online interactions.

 

  1. Information We Collect

RCA collects (and may retain) information you provide to us. We also may collect information about you through automated technologies on our online sites and from third parties. Information collected through automated technology that is linked to you is treated as Personal Information.

Information Provided By You

RCA, and its third party Providers collect Personal Information from you when you provide it. Examples of this include:

  • information in writing via letter, note, e-mail or online form or response;
  • information by telephone;
  • admission application;
  • sign up for an e-mail newsletter, or information request;
  • submission of comments, testimonial, information, file or photo;
  • submission of a resume or job application;
  • participation in a promotion or survey;
  • communication or interaction with us through our website or a social media site.

Information Collected Online by Automation or Cookies

When you visit or interact with us, we and our third party Providers may use technologies that automatically collect information about how you access, navigate, interact with and leave us. We may collect information about the site you came from, the browser type and operating system you are using, the internet protocol (IP) address you are accessing the site from, the pages you are navigating through and what website you go to after visiting our sites. Unless required by a security issue, we typically do not associate this type of information with other Personal Information about you.

Some of our sites use cookies, pixel files and other digital markers. These digital markers are used to improve the design and content of our sites and the services or information provided on them and to manage our online communication programs. We do not use cookies to access personal files on your computer.

This website uses the Google Analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies to help analyze site use and activity. The information generated by cookies about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on their own servers. Google uses this information to evaluate website use, then reports back to operators and provides other services relating to website activity and internet usage.

Google may also transfer this information to third parties where required to do so by law, or where such third parties process the information on Google’s behalf. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. 

Information From Third Parties

RCA may collect or receive information about you from third parties as required for financing, ownership or warranty information. If you are on another website and you opt-in to receive information from us, we may receive information about you. We may also obtain lists from other organizations that you have provided consent to disclose your personal information.

 

  1. Children & Minors

RCA sites and business operations are not directed to or suitable for children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect Personal Information from them. We will take all reasonable steps available to us to remove or to de-identify information that we become aware of that we have unknowingly collected about a child under the age of 13. Children who are over the age of 13 but under the age of majority where they reside should not provide RCA with Personal Information without parental or guardian consent.

 

  1. Uses of the Information Collected

We use information collected from you for the following RCA business purposes:

  • to respond to your inquiries and provide you with information;
  • to identify other products or services that we may provide;
  • to provide you with newsletters and other information materials;
  • to provide you with online service, information, forums and interactive features;
  • to monitor and research product and service quality.

If you submit a job application or resume to us, we will collect information to determine whether you would be a suitable candidate. We may retain this information in the event a future position becomes available, unless you request us not to do so.

RCA also uses information in order to improve and develop new services and programs.

 

  1. How We Obtain Your consent

You consent to the collection, storage and use of your Personal Information when you provide it to us or you give a third party permission to send us that information. The collection purposes are usually stated or implicit in the context in which you provided the information. If we want to make additional uses of your Personal Information, we will ask you for your express consent.

We use opt-out consent online for cookies, web beacons and other automated information. You may also opt-out by using browser settings that will not accept cookies or setting your e-mail application to not download images. In addition, you may opt-out of certain on-line advertising.   1. How Your Information is Shared

RCA may share information we collect about you in the following circumstances:

Third Party Providers

We may share your Personal Information with our third party Providers to help us manage and administer our programs, provide marketing assistance, post our advertisements, collect your feedback or to identify services that may be of interest to you.

Aggregated or De-identified Information

We may share information in aggregated statistics and de-identified form with third parties.

When You Specifically Give Us Consent to Share Your Information

In some cases, you may specifically agree to us sharing your information. Typically this would be when you provide us with your contact information, e-mail address, Facebook account, Instagram or Twitter account for the purposes of receiving information or communication from a third party. In those cases, your Personal Information will be subject to the privacy policy and business practices of the third party.

Business Mergers or Acquisitions

RCA may sell or purchase business assets. In the event that RCA sells or transfers a particular portion of its business assets, external individual information may be one of the business assets transferred as part of the transaction. If substantially all of the assets of RCA are acquired, customer information may be transferred as part of the acquisition. Should such a sale or transfer occur, we will use reasonable efforts to direct that entity to use your information in a manner that is consistent with this Privacy Statement and the purposes for which the information was originally collected.

Legal or Regulatory Compliance

RCA may disclose your Personal Information in the following circumstances:

  • disclosure is necessary in order to receive legal advice;
  • to collect a debt from you;
  • to comply with a legal obligation or judicial order;
  • as required by an investigative body, law enforcement official or governmental authority;
  • if we have reasonable grounds to believe that the information relates to a breach of an agreement or contravention of a law;
  • where we are otherwise permitted to do so by applicable law.
  1. Personal Information Storage & Protection

RCA requires its third party Providers to maintain administrative, technical, appropriate encryption, password and physical safeguards to protect against loss, misuse or unauthorized access, disclosure, alteration or destruction of your Personal Information. Be aware that information we collect may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries in which our third party Providers have operations, and will be subject to the laws of those jurisdictions, which may be different than Canada’s laws.

Notification of Loss or Unauthourized Access or Disclosure

In a case involving the loss of or unauthorized access to or disclosure of personal information under RCA control, and where a reasonable person would consider that there exists a real risk of significant harm to an individual as a result of the loss or unauthorized access or disclosure, RCA will, as quickly as possible, provide notice to the Information and Privacy Commissioner for Alberta of the incident, including any information required by law at the time to be provided to the Commissioner.

Under the Alberta Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), RCA may be required to notify individuals of unauthorized access or disclosure. RCA, at its discretion may elect to immediately notify individuals without specific PIPA direction to do so.

 

  1. External Content Links

RCA sites may link or direct you to other websites, services or external content resources that are outside of our control. RCA cannot safeguard and is not responsible for the protection and privacy of any Personal Information that you provide to any other person, on any other sites, platform, media or location.

 

  1. Cookies, Advertising & How to Opt-out

RCA, or our third-party advertising Providers, may use cookies, web beacons and other technologies. We use these technologies to gather statistics about your use of our sites, and for other communication purposes.

If you do not want to accept cookies, most internet browsers will allow you to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies, will notify you upon the receipt of a new cookie, disable existing cookies, disable cookies or disable the use of cookies completely. You may also be able to set your e-mail options to prevent the automatic downloading of images that may contain technologies that would allow us to know whether you have accessed our e-mail and performed certain functions with it.

  1. Accessing Your Personal Information

If you wish to verify, correct, or update any of your Personal Information collected by us or our third party Providers you may do so by contacting us.

RCA may request Personal Information from you in order to authenticate your identity before providing you with access to your Personal Information or complying with any request to correct or update your Personal Information.

In a case where RCA may not be able to access to all information, the reason will be provided in writing by RCA management.

Under Alberta law, an individual’s ability to access personal information under RCA control is not an absolute right. Alberta law prevents RCA from allowing access to or disclosing personal information where:

  • the disclosure could reasonably be expected to threaten the safety or physical or mental health of an individual other than the individual who made the request;
  • the disclosure would reveal personal information about another individual;
  • the disclosure would reveal the identity of an individual who has in confidence provided RCA with an opinion about another individual and the individual providing the opinion does not consent to the disclosure of his or her identity;
  • the disclosure is protected by any legal privilege, requirement or order.
